“The rise in water levels along the lower Ottawa River has slowed due to less rainfall than expected in the central and southern portions of the basin and cooler temperatures,” wrote the board. Ottawa River Basin Long-term Water Quality Monitoring Data Long-term freshwater quality monitoring data for over eight sites in the Ottawa River basin for the past 15 years or longer for nutrients, metals, major ions, and other physical-chemical variables are included in this dataset.

Water levels continue to slowly recede along the Ottawa River through the National Capital Region. The latest update from the Ottawa River Regulating Committee shows water . The Carillon Generating Station uses a large dam, which raised the Ottawa River water levels by over 62 feet (19 m) at Carillon and flooded out the rapids of Long-Sault, submerging all evidence of Lee’s archeological find of Dollard’s fort in Ontario.

Coutlee, C.E., before the first annual meeting of the Commission of Conservation. [C R Coutlée; Canada. Commission of Conservation.]. The Ottawa River drainage basin is the drainage basin in northern North America where surface water empties into the Ottawa River and adjoining waters.

Spanning an area of aboutkm 2 (56, sq mi), it is the 12th largest drainage basin in Canada, occupying the Canadian provinces of Ontario and accounts for about 11% of the total Saint Lawrence River drainage y: Canada. The Ottawa River (French: Rivière des Outaouais, Algonquin: Kitchissippi) is a river in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and is named in honour of the Algonquin word 'to trade', as it was the major trade route of Eastern Canada at the time.

For most of its length, it defines the border between these two provinces.• location: Lac-Moselle, La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau. The water wealth of Canada, with special reference to the Ottawa River basin [electronic resource]: an address delivered by Charles R.

Coutlee, C. E., before the first annual meeting of. Ottawa River, river in east-central Canada, the chief tributary of the St. Lawrence rises in the Laurentian Plateau of western Quebec and flows swiftly westward to Lake Timiskaming and then southeastward, forming for most of its course the Quebec–Ontario provincial border before it joins the St.

Footnote 1 Overall, water quantity at 26% of the stations across Canada had a higher-than-normal water quantity, 6% had lower-than-normal quantity and 68% had normal quantity.

Water quantity in Canadian rivers is measured as water flow, or the volume of water moving over a point, over. The May mean water level for the Ottawa River at Britannia is about metres above sea level. On Monday the water level was forecast to be about metres, or metres higher than normal.

The Government of Canada is committed to working with others to protect Canada’s fresh water, including the Ottawa River watershed. We are active in protecting the quality and quantity of water resources through policies, programs and regulations. This includes activities such as: water.

Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board. The Planning Board was established to ensure integrated management of the principal reservoirs of the Ottawa River Basin: to minimize flood and drought impacts along the Ottawa River and its tributaries, particularly in the Montreal Region; while maintaining beneficial water uses in the basin.

Ottawa River is an important economic engine, providing water for industry, hydroelectricity, tourism, and recreation. The Ottawa River is also home to rich and diverse ecosystems that help to sustain Canada’s biodiversity and underpin fundamental human rights and benefits.

Water management in the Ottawa River Watershed. According to the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board, the Ottawa River's water level is set to surpass those seen in the May floods, in some cases by more than 70 cm.

Water levels have begun to recede along most of the Ottawa River, including in the Pointe-Gatineau neighbourhood in Gatineau, Que., where houses were severely affected by the devastating floods. Article content continued.

The Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board co-ordinates the management of the 13 major reservoirs in the massive Ottawa River drainage basin — an area larger than England.

A drainage basin, sometimes called a watershed, is an area where all surface water shares the same drainage outlet. Surface water consists of the tiny trickles of water flowing on the surface of the earth that develop into larger streams and eventually combine to form a river.

The boundary of a watershed is called a drainage divide. Locally, Radio-Canada was reporting that about 80 homes were affected. The city set up a shelter at a local community centre.

City officials also told Radio-Canada that about 30 homes had water damage and at least four households needed to be relocated and offered assistance by the Red Cross.

Getting on site to capture images was trickier than expected. Ottawa River water levels in the city are all now higher then they were inwhich is the record-setting benchmark the city has been using throughout the flooding.
